Silly Sunday

We all went to church except Cathi who was not feeling well.

I took Kien to his class, Jeremy took himself to his class, and Greg took Gabe to his class which consisted of ONLY Gabe.  The two teachers wanted him to play in the huge Treehouse.  He did not want to play in the Treehouse and sat crying.  As I was headed for my class, I saw Greg peeking around the corner watching Gabe cry and wondering what to do.  I told him, "Go get him.  Why leave him there crying?"  So he took Gabe with him to his SS class.  When my classroom door opened at the end of the hour, Gabe ran in to me!  :)   Daddy could not stay in his class because Gabe became noisy.

We ushered Gabe to his churchtime class where there were lots of kids and he was happy to be there.  Greg was exhausted and wanted to go home.  So I took him home, chatted with Cathi, then left in time to pick up the three boys at the end of the morning service.  But . . . I got LOST!  Instead of getting on the highway for two exits, I stayed on the service road which took a 90 degree turn and ended up on a highway going south.  I saw the Fort Worth skyscrapers looming ahead of me and knew I was in trouble.  I didn't even know if I could make it back to church in time to get the boys without holding up their teachers!  I called Greg for directions and he talked me through the mire of roads.  I arrived before church was out, got both of the little boys, then we waited until no one was left in the building for Jeremy to finally show up.  Meanwhile, the boys shared a snack.

A Heavenly Saturday

Greg mentioned a few days ago that I didn't have the movers place my office furniture in the right place.  He thought the connected desk and 3 shelving units needed to be moved 8 inches.  He was right.  It would be much better, so I have not opened any office boxes waiting for the shift to happen.  They all came today for lunch, and for Cathi to complete hooking up my washer, and for Greg to do this furniture relocation. It was a MAJOR task.  No mean feat.  And I wasn't much help, but Cathi was a big help.  They also figured out how my furniture works with running cables here and there.  They were very impressed with the pieces.  I told them they will inherit it someday.

Then Greg wanted to help me unpack and wanted to know where to put books.  But, but, but. . .  I have to put the books exactly where I want them.  He was insistent, so here are my books (some of them).
And he opened all the boxes labelled "office."

It would have been easier to take one thing out at a time and put it where it belongs.  <sigh>  LOL   But he was a GREAT help!!!!  I'm not complaining, just laughing.

Cathi had to leave to run errands, take Kien to a swim birthday party, and Jeremy went also to get in the pool with Kien.  Greg had a nap in his old bed while I watched Gabe play with Legos on the floor.  I was shocked that he was interested in Legos -- especially the little Legos meant for larger hands.  He made a car!!!  I told him we have Lego wheels and found them for him.
He happily played with these Legos for an hour at least!  He also made an airplane!

Special Times

Every time I show up at their house, the little boys yell, "It's Grandma!" and do a little dance.  So cute!!!

This morning, the children in Gabe's Mother's Day Out class could bring "someone special" for breakfast.  Guess who was privileged to be the special guest!

Daddy has gone off to Tulsa for a fun weekend of racing his Miata with other Miatas.  Cathi suggested we have dinner at one of the boys' favorite places -- IHOP.  Great plan!
Kien and I played Tic Tac Toe, and he won every game!  Actually, the first game he DID win fair and square!  :)

Kien is developing into the kind of person who asks probing questions.  He obviously is thinking deeply.  He asked me what I like best about being a Grandma, followed by, "What do you do special to be a Grandma?"  Then he asked me, "What things do you do well?"  Oh, my. . .  He is taxing my brain!!!

Moved to Texas and Mowing

I arrived in Texas early September with all of my earthly belongings.  I now live just three miles from my little grandbabies -- Gabe and Kien plus 15 year old Jeremy!

A welcoming Texas sunset as I drove to their house.

It is a blessing to live so close and be able to help them out.  Jeremy needed some poster board for an assignment late one night last week, so Grandma ran to Walmart for him.

Though not jumping up and down to have a second lawn to mow now, Jeremy was willing to mow for money and Grandma is more than willing to pay.  Greg has two mowers; one of which he said I could have.  However, Jeremy does their lawn, and that one happens to be Jeremy's favorite, so how can I take it away from him? Then we had the problem of transporting it since Greg had his truck at work.  I said it could go in the back of my SUV.  The handle could hang out the back tailgate, and we could leave the windows open to not have gas smell in my car.  Jeremy didn't think Grandma could help lift it.  ha!  Grandma is stronger than he thinks!  We handled it nicely together.  A mile down the road, Jeremy commented on the grass clippings flying all over the interior of my vehicle!!!  Oh, my. . . This is going to be a major clean up!  I pulled into my garage with the tailgate up.  NOT a wise thing to do!  We heard a huge pop.  The plastic cover on the rear wiper broke off.  Nothing too serious, but certainly a bit silly for a "wise" Grandma to have done.

We unloaded the mower, and Jeremy began his task.  Two feet into the lawn, you could hear the blade chopping to the ground!  So, with a strip of shaved dirt in my front yard, we figured out how to raise the mower.  Well, we did raise the mower, but the blade did not seem to rise with the frame of the mower!  ??  After two more feet of bare earth, Jeremy stopped the mower and said, "Grandma, I don't think you want me to mow your lawn."  I replied with a smirk. "You are right, Jeremy, I do NOT want you to mow my lawn!"

So back in the car it went with the windows still down and grass clippings snowing on us all the way back to his house.
