New Photos Added

Grandma forgot Melanie sent pix to Dropbox to be used on the blog. :| So some have been added to the Saturday, July 30 (Sad Day; Happy Day) blog along with mini stories.

Sunday

I picked up Kevin this morning from Melanie's. He didn't want to come home. He was having too much fun there, but I finally tore him away.

I have five dollhouses decorating my house: the two tin ones were mine as a child, and the three wooden ones were Karin's (one I built, my favorite was purchased in a garage sale, and the largest, sturdiest one was built for Karin by a friend. Kevin and I have talked about getting out the dollhouse furniture out of the attic for for a long time. I even pulled the boxes out of the attic many months ago, but we never got around to opening them. It was not excessively hot in the attic today, so we did it! We also found some puzzles Kevin would enjoy doing. He did two of the puzzles as soon as we were down the stairs!

The largest, sturdiest dollhouse's location is easily accessible for play, so that is the one he began furnishing. I have not seen Kevin in imaginative play very much, but he was into imaginative play with the dollhouse. He was making up conversations among the dolls and having them do things.

Once we had all the furniture out, we had to set up a second dollhouse so that he had somewhere to place the duplicate furniture.

And then... we opened the box of plastic furniture which goes to my tin dollhouses. I had to retrieve it from the top of a bookcase.

Kevin Skyped with Mommy and Daddy for 2.5 hours this evening!!! He eventually took them on a tour of the house to see all his things -- art portfolio in the dining room, pictures on the refrigerator, his bedroom, then brushing his teeth in the bathroom.

Sad Day, Happy Day

This morning, before Kevin awoke, I decided to take Guinness for a walk to doggie park and get that over. With Kevin awakening between 8 and 9, it doesn't leave us with time for a walk very often, and Guinness is used to a trip to doggie park almost every day. We arrived there and a new friend came along. They had fun running, then I noted Guinny was limping on his hind right leg. Oh, NO!!!! He tore his cruciate ligament 2 years and 3 months ago which required surgery and a 3.5 month recovery period. We were told that the other knee could go within 2 years. Since we are past the 2 year mark, I thought we were safe. NOT! I called Grant to come pick us up as Guinness shouldn't walk home. He had to awaken Kevin, stand him up, and dress him half asleep. We got Guinness home and made an appointment to see the vet. Since he had already eaten today, she could not take x-rays to determine the damage. We have to wait until Tuesday, as this is a holiday weekend! She gave him a pain shot and meds to give him each day until Tuesday. We are back to no exercise, no stairs, no jumping, etc. Miserable for everyone!

This afternoon, Kevin watched videos in our bedroom. First he created a tent for viewing.

Later he had more of a hammock.

This evening, Melanie and family babysat for us while we went to a Rotary BBQ. Kevin was VERY excited about being there, and Teo was thrilled too! In fact, 3 year old Teo planned the evening: dinner, play on the playground, bath, movie with popcorn. The evening proceeded exactly on schedule!!!
Dinner. Actually... Grampa and Kevin and eaten a BUNCH of chips and dip before going to Melanie's/BBQ, curbing the appetite of both of them with junk food. ugh!

Play on playground

Bath, then movie with popcorn.

When we arrived to pick him up, he did not want to leave. He wanted to have a sleepover, and Teo wanted him to stay, and Melanie offered -- said she didn't mind. Sooo... I gave in.

Apparently, they wanted to sleep on the floor instead of in the bunk bed.

By morning, all three boys were in Philip and Melanie's bed!

This blog began as an open blog at http://ninasgrandchildren.blogspot.com/ chronicling the lives of my five grandchildren when I am with them. Our daughter, Karin, was the mother of Kevin, Kien (who are still my grandchildren), and Aria (who has been readopted outside our family). She was a superb mother and blogger. These blogs (current private address and previous open address) are an attempt to carry on her legacy.
